Hi, everyone I have been wondering what the answer to this question was for a long time. Does anybody know what whistle was used in the Polar Express movie? It doesn't sound like PM 1225's whistle and I know that was the engine they used to model the movie version after. So any responses to this question would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the misplaced comma after the first word. It should have been after the second word.
My guess is that the 1225 had that whistle when she was recorded for the movie.
I vaguely recall a behind-the-scenes video posted at YouTube (or maybe on a POLAR EXPRESS DVD). The sound of the boy sliding down the coal pile was made by a crewman doing that.
You can ask RailfanRon from this 2012 post about the manufacturer of the whistle. But, simply, it is the whistle on the PM 1225 in the Lionel sound packages for the PE on the Trainsounds tender, Legacy and now LionChief.
Hers it again, after going through some maintenance and returning to service this year.
There are some other posts with videos of it's PE rides this year.
Thanks for your response!
Yes the sounds in the movie are from the PM 1225. When they mixed it into the movie they may have altered it a little for the "proper" effect in the theater. The whistle and other sounds in the "Scale" PM 1225 are also recorded from the prototype.

Actually all of the sounds of the scale legacy Pere Marquette/Polar Express come directly from the real 1225 and are used in the movie as Ron stated.
The trainsounds and lioncheif soundsets are generic sounds Lionel has used on other locos. They are not taken from the prototype.
