How about a U-33B with the AAR-B type truck instead of the EMD Blomberg truck and no light on the short hood, the way that Penn Central, Rock Island, and other roads had them. (Come to think of it, a Rock Island unit in the brown-and-yellow paint scheme with the big Rock Island on the side wouldn't be a bad choice).

My Gosh Rusty,

If Lionel made a Vision Line 2-10-10-10-10-10-2
I'd cost so much you'd have to sell your Ol Lady to buy it.

Mmmm What was the name of those auction houses again??? Wink

Boy that would be cool! not the engine the other part.
Unforunatly I would not get much for the old girl, maybe a cheese burger happy meal, I afraid I could not get a section of Ross track for her let alone a big steamer, she is a lot of goog for other things...

Lionel should make a Vision true D&RGW Articulated. They had several classes one if them the L-131 was the largest steam engine before the Big Boy. There is too many versions for me to post, but if Lionel did their research properly, they would have a winner.

I've seen some 2 rail scale O gauge D&RGW engines and they were spectacular!

I agree that would be a VERY cool idea, if it's feasible. But if they did the Polar Express, Back to the Future would be just as reasonable.

Along with that, I'd like some more Legacy equipped SD40-2's for the Classics Line, I love the ones from 2006 (Norfolk Soutehrn/Canadian Natl.) and can't have too many of them.

Plus a new scale model of Strasburg's #90 Decapod Steamer and White Pass & Yukon's #73 Mikado both with Legacy and matching excursion passenger cars. Either could be in the Vision or Classics Line.

For the Conventional Classics, I'd like two favorites from 1956. The #2273WS Milwaukee Road 2378 F-3 Frieght Set, and the 2368 Baltimore & Ohio F-3 AB's fro seperate sale. Plus set #1430WS O-27 passenger set with the 2025 Steamer and the 3 green 2400-series passenger cars. Those would be cool to see fresh, inexpensive and new.
I was at a show and one of the manufactures/Importers stated that there were not many engines left in O gauge to model anymore. He said this with a strait face also.
1. He is very misinformed
2. He was told to say that.
3. He is not at all knowledgeable of the motive power of any railroads.
4. He is stupid and has to be retrained after lunch everyday

In any case there are many engines to be done, more then enough to fill Catalogs for a long time, just look at this tread. That L 131 that marker showed us a stupendous machine , Rio Grande is not one of my roads but I buy that mean old girl in a New York Hear beat. That is a great heavily piped ugly brute, dang I love it.

The bottom line is there are plenty North American engines to be built for a long time and not one would have to be a Hudson.

Good list!!

But seriously, I'd be REAL happy if they made something they have never made 10 times over already. Every year, this forum provides "FREE" marketing advice and every year we continue to be disappointed by the same old stuff, albeit with the latest electronics, but still how many F3s does one need? How many years of asking will it take?

Price is not the issue from reading these wish lists, the issue is getting something new, not made before..my train dollars are being spent elsewhere for lack of anything exciting. That's real bad news for our hobby, IMHO. I ordered FL9-s last years, not from the big three, because someone else offered them, and it was high on my list. If Lionel and such decide wow we should make those too, well my money got spend already. I got the FL-9s. With the electronics to boot.

So Lionel, go out on an edge once in while read these lists and take them seriously. We got bucks to spend on this stuff. If you want that money, make the products being requested once in a while, a decade later...I'm doubtful we will see these items ever. I've been asking fro some of these for 10+ years now.

MAKE IT SCALE! would look great with the k4 boiler. The Pennsy made them interchangeable why cant lionel?

I'd be willing to bet Lionel has 80 percent of this locomotive already in their parts inventory. They just have not thought about building it.
I have had no discussions with model railroad manufacturers/importers ever.
Do they actually read model train forums to see what participants would like for them to offer for sale?
Do they question dealers to find out what is being asked for?
Can somebody give examples of this happening?
Would the size of the company be a factor in this?

I am not being a smart butt,I really would like to know.
"Smart" 21st Century Diesel Maintenance Facility Building!

Technology and Innovations have always caught my eye. That said, I would suggest that Lionel produce a "Smart" 21st Century Diesel Maintenance Facility Building.

Legacy features:
1. Open and close the doors with Cab-1 or Cab-2.

2. Turn exterior and interior lights on or off with Cab-1 or Cab-2.

3. Enter Id’s into Legacy Cab-2 what Diesel or Steam locomotives are assigned to their scheduled maintenance and have announcements from the Maintenance Facility or Roundhouse when the engines need to be serviced. “Engine 1988 Scheduled Maintenance today track one”, kind of like a Locomotive Maintenance Management System. The Service check could be programmed for 30, 60 or 90 days. This would make for a great reminder to look your engines over for traction tire issues, lubricate gears, check for loose wires, and a general maintenance check just like the real deal. If you wanted to service all your engines in 1 session, then you could enter a code that would make an announcement of all your engine ids one at a time every 5 or 10 minutes until you have acknowledge the engine has been serviced. At the end of the day you could enter a code that would check all the engines in inventory that have been serviced and announce “All engines serviced next scheduled maintenance in 30 days”.

The Maintenance Facility could even make announcements for staging your Diesel or Steam locomotives for sand, water and fueling. “Engine 1982 Track two clear for fueling”. A two stall modern building would look fantastic. A roundhouse would be colossal!

Swafford
i would like to see a quality product. a $1000 engine shouldn't have loose and missing screws or broken off screws in the engine shell. wires in the tender leading to the smoke resistors shouldn't be pinched between the smoke chamber and frame exposing bare wire. wires on the tender leading to the IR pickup chaff as they move through the frame as the spring action cupler moves. this is only a small sample of what i found.

build them in china if you must; but PLEASE assemble them here by people who care. thank you
I have not seen the steam chest effect in person yet, the videos look cool. Like Marty, I would likely prefer the whistle steam effect over the steam chest. I do know that for 2013 I hope that Lionel gets back to having the steam actually emanate from the whistle like it does on my ATSF 3000 rather than from a hole in the boiler behind the whistle like on the new 3751. It is a small detail, but it looks so much cooler coming out of the whistle!

I like the 2 and 3 packs of the scale cars...how about a regional northeast 2 or 3 pack like a Lehigh & New England 2 bay AAR hopper and a grey Jersey Central PS-2 covered hopper or a Buffalo Creek flour PS-1 and a Lehigh Valley PS-5 gondola in the 50s tuscan scheme...

Also:

I held off on buying the MTH Susquehanna S-2 because of the floating pilot issue...Lionel has a fixed pilot -- do this up in the grey and maroon Susie Q and I am THERE!

L&HR C420s with Legacy and matching NE caboose...

More scale freight car tooling...how about a generic double door 40 ft single sheathed autobox -- the midwest roads bought those things up -- flyover country supporters should be all over that...also, maybe a generic 40 ft ventilator boxcar...lots of southern roads had em....
