with the sales on this weekend what is a better choice a gp35 or a gp38 or a c420 ? Do all c420s run on 036 track and switches?

What brand of train? MTH, Lionel, Williams, Atlas, Other?
Scale? Semi-Scale?
Conventional / Command Control?
What's better? You're going to get a bunch of differing opinions.

sorry for not enough info looking for legacy loco to run on 036 i got a legacy system last month but dont have any thing to run . im not running to scale so that doesnt matter looking to get the best bang for the buck those are my 3 choices if it helps thanks
IMO any B-B diesel would look reasonably nice on O36 curves.
What roads do you want to model? Maybe that alone could narrow some of your options.
No sense beating around the bush. Get all 3 of 'em.
