My Hamiltonian set did not sell for $800. If you guys saw it on ebay, you know it's a nice set. At least VG+ condition. And the best part is that the shade of red all matches. Also, runs like a top with bell ringer and reverses. Nighthawk says split it into the engine and the cars. Thoughts? I have a guy that's bought from me and always pays immediatley that asked "if the Hamiltonian doesn't sell, what would you take for it?". Should I relist? What should I respond?

Thanks, Bill

I think I would re-list one more time. I don’t think I would reduce just yet either.

Talk the offer guy up and maybe work out a free ship if he gives you the asking $800.

All this goes out the window if you need to sell NOW. Then I would break the set and turn and burn. Less than your asking price is better than no money.

Just my opinions.

Well, I'm not in an emergency. I'm just selling to buy two Marklin deluxe locomotives. I've only found one of them for a reasonable price. And he says he will hold it for me for months. I'll email my friend and offer to pay the shipping & see what he says. Even with the market, I think this one is well worth the $800.

$800 for a good condition Hamiltonian Set is a great deal.  I've seen them go for $2k with a box.  I have an original that isn't as nice I paid about 700 bucks for.  I have an MTH flavor of the cars and they are really nice.  I think the MTH offering may have depressed the prices a bit.  I'd still keep my originals.

I don't remember however I do think they were made by AC Gilbert in New Haven, CT (not in Chicago).  I like the stuff that was made here...
