In my horsetrading I got stuck with a few 042 remote-control switches as part of a deal.

I'm wondering, why do they seem to not be in demand?  Are they a specialty thing?  Still plenty of them around?

I have them listed on here at about 1/2 retail price but no bites.  Before I list them on Ebay, I'd like to tweak my pricing and see if I can sell them here, but maybe I just got a "dog" in this deal and need to blow them out.

Any thoughts?  I run all Fastrack so I am not that knowledgeable about older-style tubular track.

Your ad doesn't specify whether they are 0 or 027 profile switches. You should mention that they are 0, not 027, since Lionel only used to make 042 switches in 027 profile. Also it would help if you posted a photo, since most people aren't familiar with this design. Your 042 switches are Lionel-branded remakes of K-Line switches. I have a bunch of the K-Line originals on my layout - my recollection is that I paid around $35-40 apiece for them (secondhand, NIB or LNIB), so dropping the price a bit might help. They should sell - 042 is great for a smaller layout when you want to get something less restrictive than 031 but don't have the room for something bigger.

That's great information, thanks!  I changed my ad and added a picture to reflect that.

As mentioned I am all Fastrack with newer stuff since the train set is really something for my 2.5 year old son and I to work on, and I don't want anything that could accidentally get damaged.  So my knowledge of older-style stuff is limited.    I grew up with N-Scale so O gauge itself has been a learning curve for me.

The advice from Southwest Hiawatha is sound.  I have a number of O42 switches in O gauge from K-Line.  They do the trick for the reasons stated.  I'll also echo price:  bear in mind when you buy something, and then turn around and sell it, at that point the price has to reflect a concession to the seller or that person would be better off buying it new.  Too many people, in my view, make the mistake of thinking that if they haven't used it, the price doesn't drop, or drop that much.  Whereas in my view, if I am buying something from someone whom I do not know and it is not new, the price concession must be large enough to compensate the risk of not buying the item from a real store where I'll have the ability to return it if something is wrong with it, etc.  Take that in the constructive spirit in which it is offered, and good luck with the sale.

No, I completely understand what you're saying.  I dropped the price a bit.  I guess I was equating these to tubular guys with what Fastrack switches were to me -- I would have loved to get some Fastrack switches 1/2 off, but I didn't realize these had a longer "history" so to speak, being that the K-Line was an equivalent.

I changed things in the ad on here, perhaps I will see some movement now!

Thanks!
