atlas 60 foot C&NW coach and no I have not found one
Have been looking for an Atlas O Scale 2-rail SP MP15ac for many years with no success. Atlas promised to reissue this yard switcher but so far nothing.
I wanted a brass Santa Fe 2-8-2 like Eric's.
Fortunately, picked up an O scale Westside unit 2 years ago and am still looking for another. They just don't come on the market very often.
GG1 4800 "Old Rivets" has always been my holy grail of locomotives and in 2009 I was given the opportunity to consult on the design and provide the graphics for this model.
Saw Old Rivets at the Pa. RR Museum. Hope they restore it someday. Those are pretty models, though. Some day (maybe tomorrow !!) I will get mine.
30th Street
That Gold Plated Big Boy is stunning. I have only seen (until this thread) a catalog picture. Thanks for sharing.

While not O-gauge, but still 3 rail, the wide gauge American Flyer lithograph Presidents special set. Can be expensive, but I would pay a reasonable (relative) price for the set. There was one on eBay a few months ago, reasonably priced, but the cash flow wasn't there at the time. As some have said, sometimes it's the hunt that is more fun.
It keeps changing. Every tie I get one, another pops up. It's never-ending.
Up until a couple of weeks ago it was the Lionel 100th Anniversary BSA Engine. A new friend and his wife scored it for me at York. Many thanks to Ken and Deb.
One great thing about this hobby is the thrill of the chase. I will probably find something else to chase after but for now, I am basking in my (now complete) BSA train.

Awesome
1972 911S coupe ..... numbers matching of course... Irish Green with factory correct sport seats...
oh you probably meant train wise......Probably a lot of stuff..
Nice original boxed 265E/261t/617,618,619 with perfect plating and of course boxed.
A nice boxed 763E grey with grey coal pile tender as well...
Yes, I know those two items are not really that high on the collector scale, but they are items I really like a lot and unless I tripped over a great deal, I am not very likely to drop the coin required.
Heck, I'd get all excited over a 12or 15" gauge Cagney as well... Wouldn't really care on the condition either...
A 'boose....K-Line's K616-1491, DRGW woodsided 'boose...
If I hadn't seen one pass by on de Bay several months ago, I'd have suspected they never made it.....though I know better.
It's the wife's favorite railroad. We search high/low at every Yorking show, but so far......
(sigh)
Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

I'm looking for the Lionel NYC double decker alum 2 pak -(B'klyn, Long Is)
Also looking for Legacy B&M GP9. either road #, as they made 2.
Searched for years for an Ives 1708 cattle car that was in nice shape that wasn't for crazy money ($500+). I found it at York last spring for a great price!
I wouldn't call it a "Holy Gail" as it's more like an old tin cup, but I've been looking for a nice one for awhile. Finally got one today.
Marx Commodore Vanderbilt
She's got a few small dents and scratches, but basically she's in pretty nice shape and runs smooth and quiet.
Family owned nostalgia, and personal preference combined:
1. Santa Fe red/polished War Bonnet ABBA, car body consist, all powered, permanently coupled, wires between units, make(E?F?) and brand unknown to me for sure. I think it began with a W.
2. A Ford logo decorated 44ton Lionel switcher.
3. American Flyer/Lionel/Joy transition, Lionel 3r O gauge, probably tin, Commodore Vanderbilt(before, the known, cast metal Lionel). Gramps had 2 old non-corp. news papers or magazine articles saying some existed, but he never found any as of 1983 when his "quest" ended.(anybody know of one? Ill trade fine shrubbery!)
A close "filler" would be any 1st run GG1 as long as its a "black" one. (even though my Tuskan can motor substitute will easily outperform it)(I see new ones for about $160 in the ads above, it aint gonna get much cheaper, if at all. Cheapest local nice/used GG1 Ive seen in four years I own, a $90 K-line bought three years ago. Id have bought a new Williams for $160 if I saw it first. Snacking on SPAM while searching for your "cup" is not expressly forbidden. Run away! Go get one)

Awesome nice one
I think mine was trying to find a model of a Seaboard air Line class Q3 2-8-2.
In the end, I had to modify a Williams/Samhongsa brass USRA 2-8-2 and build a Vanderbilt tender to boot:
The Q3 was the workhorse for SAL and a model worthy of some attention from the manufacturers.

With the headlight visor like mine! Ive only seen 1-2 others. Most seem to have a trim ring similar to the other Marx. Any cars with it. Mine had a forced air smoke unit & bulb. It rusted away, but the train lives.
The MTHRRC purple comet cars
And the add-on car.
I've yet to see any for sale. A friend of mine has them nib but is holding on to them tightly. I can only image they did not make too many of these. Probably 25 sets I would assume.
MTH CB&Q SD9 Gray and Black up graded to PS2
MTH CB&Q SD24 Chinese Red and Gray PS3
MTH GN SD9 Just purchased.
Still on the must have list:
MTH GN FA2
MTH GN EMD FT or F3
Atlas SAL GP7 or 9
ACL MTH EMD FT or F3, Atlas SD35
MTH C&NW SD9
Check this out. I had been watching a GN SD9 and a GN FA2 on ebay. A day or two after this post the same seller listed an GN SD9. Now I didnt catch the fact the other SD9 was from the seller of the FA2 until I had placed a bid on the other SD9. Now I am thinking this guy is a forum member and it would of have been nice if that seller of the SD9/FA2 would of just contacted me. Might have been able to make a deal on both.
On the others all have popped up in the last 2 weeks on Ebay with the exception of the CNW SD9, and Barry just listed an ACL FT. When it rains it pours.
My Marv Vanderbilt was a nice $5 wind up I saw at a TCA show, brought it home and put a Marx electric motor in it. Kept the windup motor. Runs nice.

Yeah, I noticed the headlight visor instead of ring too. I wonder if there's some significance to that.
This one has no smoke, but I'm contemplating adding a 666 smoker, unless it turns out the visored ones are super rare and worth their weight in gold or something. LOL
I recently bought a Grail.......one I already had.......
N&W 611 J is one of my all time favorite locomotives. I have been in her cab, chased her, riden behind her and visited her in Roanoke. And yes....I bought a 'Fire Up 611' tee and donated to the restoration. And it was a model of N&W J that moved me form HO to O 3rail. Back when MTH first brought out the Rail King J a buddy brought his to work. I was blown away by how nice it was for $299. I became an O scale 3 railer. I bought many a loco and car over the years. Then I bought a MTH C&O Chessie Turbine loco. I figured that MTH would never make a Rail King version. Unknowingly that started me down a O 3r Scale path. I started replacing my RK locos with scale versions.
Last week I found a Williams Brass N&W J 611 loco. It was on that auction site. It was listed for more than I had to spend right now. But it had a 'Make offer' button....so I did...an offer of about 1/4 what a PS3 MTH scale version will cost. It came in the mail the other day.
It's 100% conventional control.....not even a whistle or bell. I can add these if I feel the need....don't think I will. Perfect condition.....little use......runs like a top.
So the first loco that got me into O scale has now been upgraded to scale. Great loco!!!
Dave: Beautiful buy on the J. I am envious. Bob
Mine's a little more old and esoteric, owing to my fetish ...er...enthusiasm...for Lionel scale Hudsons and freight cars.
I want a Lionel wooden display board for the scale 700-E Hudson that has two-rail, not three-rail, T-rail track. I saw one, once, at the Westchester show in 1985, was reaching for my wallet, and some scoundrel grabbed the board and bought it.
There were three of us who all saw it at roughly the same time, and we all agreed that it was genuine Lionel, and not a Hudson Products item. It was the first and last time I have ever seen a piece of 2-rail T-rail track.
Thanks to the O-Gauge manufactures and the multitude and assortment of locos and cars, I just can't see anything that could be classified as Holy Grail material.
Or it could be said that most everything is Holy Grail.

2014 has been a banner year in fulfilling "holy Grail" items. IT started in summer 2014 whan I gound Out Nicholas Smith placed their inventory on-line. I obtaineed
Thanks to a Forum Member that I met in September, I purchased:
Finally, I scored on "da Bay"
AMCDave,
Good going I got one a couple of months ago, a beautiful brass engine. I ended up putting PS2 in mine and it sounds great and runs the best of the 6 steamers I have, the slow speed is fantastic (42:1 gear ratio from what I recall).
