I have purchased a Lionel F7 dummy unit and need to convert to 2rail scale wheels. Has anybody done this? What wheelsets were used?
It's a newer unit. Western Pacific #814

I didn't replace the wheels but I did replace the trucks with a Weaver drive. When I was working this, NWSL was going out of business. They are back now, but may not be making all the old parts.
If you change the wheels you'll still need to insulate the frame.

Didn't think about insulating the frame. I will send NWSL a message and see if they have anything that will work.

If you use 2 rail wheelsets, and keep the insulated wheels on one side, you don't need to insulate the frame. As long as the wheels on one side are insulated from the frame, there will be no short. The frame will be "live" for whichever side you have the uninsulated wheels on but that is not a problem if you use plastic Kadee boxes for the couplers. Or just use plastic Kadee couplers.
I Tend to like the metal kadees better so I use metal couplers in plastic draft gear boxes.
