Anyone have a photo of the B&O one?
Did Lionel's previous Light Mikado releases have bell and whistle chords. I briefly owned a DWRG Mikado and I swear it had them. It has been awhile and I didn't take pics of it, so I could be way off base. I really wish Lionel would put chords on those devices that had them.
@DieselDan Can you send this forum post a video of those NYC E8's that were in the background?

Any chance it was an MTH Mikado? They all came with bell cords. I have not seen any K-Line or Lionel USRA Mikados with cords. Easy enough to add though.

My 587 is expected to come Wednesday. I still don't know about the other Mikes as far as sounds and outcome, but I'll just wait and see.

That's my son. I will ask him to take some video of the e8s and post within the next day.
My Nickel Plate Road 587 Arrived today and I made a full review video for it on Youtube! Check it out!
I wonder what the Grand Trunk Western Mikado whistle sounds like.
I wonder what the Southern Light Mikado whistle sounds like and if it is the same from the production run in 2011 of the Green Painted 4501 Southern Light Mikado or from the Heavy Southern Mikado from a couple years back. If anyone has any videos or photos of the Southern Light Mikado, I be interested in seeing it.

It'll probably be the Heavy Mikado whistle. That's just my guess.
Just received mine today. I have it doubleheading with my 2014 BTO NKP 765 Berkshire.
If someone has the NYC version, maybe they can upload photos & videos of it.
What whistle did the NYC light mikes use, actually? I thought they would use a similar sounding chime one to the Mohawks.

Considering they were made around 1918 and none remain, who would know?

Does anyone have the NYC, B&O or GTW Mikados?
Hello,
when I run my 587, it has been making a squeaking noise recently. I lubricated everything except for a hole that says “GREASE” right next to it, Are you supposed to put gear grease in there? I wanted to confirm that
Tried everything, still squeaky.

I'm kind of surprised no one has shown one of those roadnames in action.
Considering how Lionel's QC this year has been pretty iffy, these engines sound like trouble-free diamonds in the rough, and makes me really considering getting one of these - those 3 or the 587 - during the holiday season...
I’d like to see the B&O one myself

I would as well but with some of the Lionel advertisements on these saying "0-42" and some saying "0-54", and Lionel saying it "may run OK on 0-42 but it may derail the train" prompted me to hold off on these. I'm not in for a $1300+ gamble...
I've always loved the B&O Light Mikados....I did get a beautiful MTH Premier Light Mikado at York I'm very happy with and will be content with that.
This has really confused me since Lionel made the Heavy Mikados - if all these Mikes use the same chassis and tenders, they should all run on the same curve radius. The 2012 Mikes were advertised to run on O-36. The only one I can imagine needs O-54 is the 587 with the Berkshire tender.
I do agree, though, that these locomotives are really REALLY nice, but not $1300 nice...
Hello everyone,
I have been having an issue with my 587 and it is very weird. Every since I have had it, it has had this very weird moisture buildup around the boiler. I’m not sure if this is being caused by smoke fluid or something else. I’m posting a picture below. If anyone knows what the reason for this is and how to fix it it would be gladly appreciated.
Thanks!

Looks like oil from from your finger prints or you had some smoke fluid on your fingers and touched the engine.
just wipe it off.

Already tried that, it’s really weird and the buildup of moisture seems to come back.
Nick,
You might want to use an example of degreasing material. Just not a very strong one, or else it might attack the paint. Some warm water and a dab of kitchen soap usually does the trick.
Could we see videos of any other Mikados? So far, we've seen NKP, Main Central, & PRR.

Here's one of the Union Pacific.
Any others?
Anyone have the B&O one?
Or NYC. Or even videos of the GTW?
Quite impressed with what sound the Union Pacific one got. Not what I expected at all, but it works.
If the GTW one has a whistle like 4070, I'll be really considering that one...
Anyone have the B&O, Maine Central, or Southern versions?
I'm really interested in the B&O - but - I see O-54 and 0-36 minimum curve requirements thrown around.
Can anyone confirm/deny - with the latest delivered engines - what the absolute minimum curve is? Will it do an 0-36 or 0-42 or, dare I say, an 0-31?
My MTH Premier Light Mikado does 0-42 and wider all day long.....
I will not take a ~ $1,200 gamble....
Nice! I like the variety of whistles lionel used. Would like to see the NYC.
Looks like the 587 is selling out from many of the online dealers during the Black Friday weekend, but the others seem to be staying around the shelves.
Here's for all the NYC fans out there:
Five down, three Mikados to go! Let me know if you have videos of the GTW, B&O, & Southern versions.
Looks like Lionel used the whistle sound from the Empire State Express Hudson for the NYC Mikado. Honestly, it does fit the model slightly better than the generic Heavy Mikado whistle sound.
