I'm running a Lionel Santa Fe FT ABBA 6 car consist and this Railsounds FT "A" only came in 1 number #162. I'm running 2 of them and it looks dumb. I would like to change the 2nd A loco to a different number. I like the set and would like to fix this small issue.

Is there a place I can purchase the transparent numbers for the 2 lighted boards in the front and the decals for the 2 sides?

Thank you for any replies,

Greg

The original Santa Fe FT's carried the same number throughout the A-B-B-A set.  There was a suffix (L,A,B,C) not displayed on the side numberboards.

162LABC was part of the ten FT sets configured for passenger service in 1946.  As F3's arrived,by 1952 they were all reconfigured back for freight service and painted back to blue and yellow.

Rusty,

So having 2 #162’s would be correct for my set?

Yes. Back then the units tended to stay together as a set.

Why are the new Lionel LionChief Santa Fe FT AA set numbered 161 & 164?

Lionel moves in mysterious ways.  Technically a single FT-A or A-A pair wouldn't be pulling an SF passenger train because the steam generators in all Santa Fe F's were in the B-Units.

Thank you for your reply Rusty,

I used to ride the Super Chief from Chicago to La with my folks back in the 50’s and early 60’s. I have tons of their old vacation photos including one standing in front of the entrance to the sleeper cars at Dearborn station wearing a sport coat and tie at 8 years old. I was hoping to see one with the front and the numbers...but don’t have any....

fond memories

Thanks for taking the time to explain that to me.

Thanks Lou for the links. I collect train photos on Pinterest and have a bunch of Super Chief ones.... I never saw those sites. Someone commented on my ABBA set not being correct with 2 #162’s back when I first got the 2nd A & a B unit. I’m getting ready to do a around the ceiling set up in a metal building I’m having built and look forward to having them out other than Christmas once a year.

Appreciate it.
