Some of the 1st issue Railking were crude and had bad proportions. Some of the old Premier molds were re-branded as Railking Scale.
And like you said: "More detail than RailKing, but less than Premier". And also, smaller but with better looks than 1st release Railking.
The Imperial stuff I've seen (and own) are RK sized but with detailing very close to Premier. Case in point is the Imperial 30-1484-1 4-8-4 FEF. It has nice detailing, but is not scale sized.
Imperial Railking, (this usually refers to steam locos) besides more detail than the standard Railking engine., they have operating marker lights with LEDS instead of a green lens behind the headlight bulb. Also a operating tender back up headlight.
The RailKIng Imperial 0-6-0 switchers don't look out of place among their Premier brethren, but when add you add an Imperial L1 Mike to the mix, the difference in size is immediately noticeable.
To operate on O-31 curves, the larger engines require proportional size reductions. If you check MTH's catologs for the Rail King Imperial engines, you'll see that some, especially the shorter ones are listed as 1:48 scale sized.
SXE60: Thanks for the thumbs up. Another point to consider; switchers, by their very nature, don't usually have a lot of detail.
