I have a few pieces of rolling stock that didn't come with boxes.

Where's a good place to find them? Need a couple different sizes.

Additionally, what's the best way to protect them inside the boxes? I need to wrap them in something. Don't have the capability to cut/carve styrofoam.

@Keystone - I prefer not all Lionel boxes as I have some Menards, some K-Line and some Lionel.

Appreciate the reference/link to BCW Trading Card Boxes.

Looks like I need to dig out all my "no box" items and start measuring.

I buy "mailers" that are offered by many online sellers. I use the 4" x 4" x  L. "L" being two or more plus inches longer that the item going inside. I then wrap it in bubble-wrap and also put a bubble-wrap "pillow" at each end of the box.

Same here - 4x4x12 or 4x4x10 for most rolling freight stock. I differ on the wrap though; never like bubble wrap actually touching cars and paint.  A layer or 3 of good soft paper cloth first, then bubble wrap as needed.

Another option is to get some of those boxes used for computer paper, some additional scrap cardboard, make a few partitions, and store the cars that way.  I limit the car movement by putting wadded up tissue wrapping paper underneath each car and cutting some of the cardboard partitions so they will lock the car couplers in place.  Most of the cars I have are litho so I don't want to wrap them in anything and I don't want to store them on their side.

In order to keep track of what is where I put a label on the outside of the box listing the contents.

Pretty sure I picked this tip on the forum some time ago, but for some of our less fragile items that we run seasonally on the layout we store them in case of liquor boxes we get for free from a local package store. The cardboard boxes come with an insert to partition 12 bottles of booze and the height and width of each partition is good for storing a box car or a couple of flat cars. We wrap each item in packing paper and put packing peanuts on the bottom so as not to stand a piece on the coupler. Don't put anything breakable in these boxes but good for boxcars with molded detail, flat cars with no load, empty gondola, et al.
