Scratch built tender with Yoder trucks bottom out plus don't have leaf springs. CLW used to have them but that product line has disappeared, unfortunately.

PSC had them in phosphor bronze. For a while All Nation had them. I always put coil springs inside - the leaves are too weak for a moderately heavy car.
Ive used the PSC springs in Athearn trucks along with others. PSC also makes unique heavy duty trucks of various types. Might have a good one for your tender.
Thanks for the help - surprised these type of trucks are not plentiful. I'll do some looking while I'm at Indy. Could always put a block of wood behind the leaf spring. tender not light, especially if I were to use a battery. I've considered it.
I just looked at the PSC site and they have a few types of tender trucks in stock.
I did not look for plain freight car trucks with leaf springs.
I have same problem with leaf springs bottoming out. put a small block of wood from behind and painted black. I am going to try heavier springs from behind, that may be the answer.
Another thing, since when did tender trucks come with all wheels insulated??
Harmon,
I have installed phosphor bronze leaf springs from PSC into a pair of their Andrews tender trucks (PST-9153) and they work well and look good. The truck kit came with the leaf springs. I soldered the bottom end of the leaf springs to the truck sideframes to hold them in place with a resistance soldering iron.
The trucks are under an All Nation tender behind my recently finished AN Prairie loco.
Double insulated wheel sets for tender trucks does not make any sense to me.

Joe, That's how the Yoder 70 T Crown trucks came. You can imagine my joy when that was discovered. Was there a large number of those wheelsets that had to be used up? Crazy.
