Some of the results are larger than 1" but some are incredibly small (i.e., < 0.5") and might have a number of interesting uses on a layout.

I use salvaged laptop speakers for stuff like this, they have sound engineered baffles and some can be very compact. Here's a sampling of the ones I have currently in my speaker box. Some of the best sound in both range and volume can be found in laptops, they spend considerable time engineering the sound.
If you don't have a lot of devices with the speakers John pictured to take them from you can get them from Railmaster Hobbies. They won't break the bank.
