Seeking information on where to go to sell some rolling stock, etc. that I acquired when I was working at Lionel from Nov 1986 – Nov 1990. For example, I have the O Gauge Boxcars with Christmas graphics that were handed out to employees from 1986-1989, and the LLS Christmas Car from 1989.  I also have four limited edition Grand Truck Western double door boxcars (9764) that are identical in every respect to a run made in the mid-eighties, but the built date (BLT) on these is 9-90.  Dick Kughn was invited to join the GT board in 1990, and he had these run to hand out at the first board meeting he attended.  Of course, we always ran a few extras in case we had quality defects…  somehow those 4 found their way home with me.  :-)  Everything I have is in its original box, and has never been run.

Any advice would be welcomed.

Mike....obviously you are here to sell these "rare" items.  There is a buy/sell board on this forum.  I would recommend that you decide how much you want and post them for sale observing the rules of the forum.

Otherwise, since you were an employee and had contact with the "right people" you may want to contact them for help....

And of course, there is e-bay where you can present to the entire world...

I would like to sell them, but do not know their value to cannot post them in that forum.  I do not want to go the ebay route unlss I have to.  I was really seeking a source that would be interested in buying them for a reasonable price, likely to resell them and make a buck themselves.  I am willing to share the profits.  That's why I posted as seeking information.

I know of one individual (a TCA member) who collects rare Lionel items. I am not sure if he would agree that what you have is what HE calls "rare," since that usually applies to pre- and post-war items.

He once bought an entire PW collection just to acquire one box car that appealed to him.

If you are a member of the collecting clubs, I'm sure you can ask around and find out who the high-rollers are in the "rare" category. Then contact them privately.

The auction houses that specialize in rare and historically significant toy trains might be another source of information.
