I'm depending on your past experience in "pre-ordering" new Lionel items to find a new source for my Lionel pre-orders.  Your recommendation should be based on a reasonable pre-order discount and reliability that you receive your items as you ordered them.  I realize some don't pre-order when a Lionel catalog is released, I respect that, I just want a response from those who are satisfied with their pre-ordering of Lionel in the past.

I appreciate your input on this.

I'll second that, you don't pay a dime till the item ships and you recieve prompt emails detailing when it does with tracking numbers. They are quite reasonable when it comes to errors or defects in the product as well. FWIW, Ro seams to get items to customers before most other dealers.

The Model Train Store of NJ has the BEST prices if that's of primary importance.    No deposits. Get on the mailing list for an additional 5% off pre-orders and free shipping (at least my last pre-orders.) Henry always delivers but it usually takes a while. He's one of the few Lionel direct dealers left and they seem to get their product later than others.

I use Charles Ro. The prices are good and Ro updates you on you back orders. When your order finally arrives from Lionel Ro will send you an email with FEDEX Ground tracking info. This is particularly useful when one finds it necessary to get the box of of the front porch before the wife gets to it.  I have used Charles Ro going back to the MPC days.

I have heard good things about Nassau. I just have a habit of sticking to things that I know works.

Thanks,

Richard

I've been happy with Charles Ro the last couple of years, but I ran into a problem last year and I had to scramble to find one of the Lionel made in the USA cars that were shorted due to the manufacturer bankruptcy (ended up getting it from Nassua Hobbies).

This problem only pertains to small orders, so it won't effect too many folks on the forum.

If you have multiple items on order, and the total of the items that have arrived in stock is less than $75, than Ro doesn't ship until other items on your order arrive and the total goes over $75. If one of the items goes out of stock while your order is in this pending mode, than you are out of luck. They don't set the items aside for you. It isn't a real common situation and normally isn't a problem as there generally aren't fast sell outs of the less expensive (under $75) items, but it can happen.

There is a way to avoid this potential pitfall. When you place your order, request that they ship items as they arrive. This could end up costing you more money for shipping, depending on when items arrive from the manufacturer, but you don't have to worry about items going out of stock.

I'll probably continue to order from Charles Ro.

That dosn't happen with us. If you don't have enough to ship your item goes into the "hold room" until it does. It DOES NOT go back into stock!

Thanks for all the kind words, we try our best.

but the additional shipping is only 5 dollars.  ro's shipping is the least amount of any I have found.
