Whereabouts of El Comedor Dining Car Rock Island #428?

I think I have a book or I saw a photo of that rail car recently. I will look for it.

Thanks, Jim.  This afternoon I found another photo on the web of no. 428 that had the KY museum's name and location on it.  However the following undated link to the Railroad Preservation Index, says it's at the museum, but for sale and so cautions that it may no longer be there:

That would explain why it's not on their current website roster.  Mildly related, I also saw that a china cream pitcher from the dining car sold for well over $1000.

I can't find it but I might have seen it on-line. Would be neat to have some china from it but not for that kind of $$. The dining cars have always fascinated me.  Saw one in the museum at Spencer this summer.

I ate supper in that dining car while on a troop movement from Fort Bliss to Fort Riley, in 1966.  We had two Pullmans which were added to the rear of the Golden State at El Paso.  The decor was certainly unique.

Thanks for sharing your experience.  That's really something.  I seem to recall reading that the interior had copper Mexican-themed sculptures on the walls.  Was that the case when it was used while "in service", so to speak?
