I recently broke the knuckle (not really a coupler) off of a MTH Premier container car. I think I can glue it back on but I don't know what glue is best suited for this task. CA , 5-minute epoxy, Gorilla glue

There is a company here in Ohio that produces a glue that is the best that can be found. It is called Lightning Bond Glue. Here is the web site http://lightningbondglue.com

I did something like this recently. Gorilla thick instant glue first, then re-enforced with a coat of 5 min epoxy for strength. I've made a number of repairs like this seem to hold up well.
