I have have a few locomotives that I run with my Lionel LEGACY remote. Previously, I have been using the CW-80 (I think) that came with a Lionel Hogwarts Express set, to power my floor layout when I run my legacy engines and also conventional engines. Last week, I hooked up my postwar ZW transformer to run my 736 locomotive, because it seems to run better with that one. I made this video of the locomotive running.

Now I'm wondering if it would be okay to run my command control equipment with the postwar ZW transformer vs the small CW-80. What are the pros and cons to each setup? I'm sure this has been discussed before, but if you all would be kind enough to tell me, it would be much appreciated.

I want to thank you John and Lee for your responses some time ago. I was wondering how to set up these circuit protections and TVS diodes that you are talking about. I wanted to revive this discussion because I was testing the voltage on my Legacy loop (CW-80 powered), and the multimeter was giving me a reading of about 15 volts instead of 18 as it should be with the throttle all the way. Fearful of damaging the electronics inside with inadequate voltage, I wanted to run my Legacy engines with the ZW on a separate loop of track that I already what set up using that transformer, but I don't know how to set up these protective measures. Some diagrams would be helpful. Thank you!
