Actually those railroads that had their own "standard" whistle, specified those whistles specifically form the locomotive builder, thus they didn't have to change anything upon delivery.

 

It is possible that the PM and the NKP may have had the same whistles.

No, they are not the same whistles.

 

The 765 has one of the most unique-sounding whistles of any steam locomotive I have ever heard. I could recognize it in a heartbeat. I have never heard another steam whistle quite like the 6-chime Nathans on the NKP Berks.

 

You might be interested to know that 765 actually carries the whistle off the Class Engine, NKP 700.

I have to say the 1225 has very high tone to its whistle.I watched a news story about 765 after having.What I call a tuneup.Now I bet that whistle can be heard for a few miles.Every railroad back then had their own way of doing things.
