Anyone familiar with the Whistle Stop Hobby and Toy store in Michigan? Particularly with online ordering? Just wondering if they're reputable.

They're a local shop quite near where I grew up. I've never purchased online, but they're well known locally as a good family owned/operated business and I've definitely patronized their store on many occasions. Their train selection has definitely shrunken in the past few years as they expand on their toy side of the business, but they do generally have some interesting stuff. They started carrying a lot more used trains in more recent years, but I don't believe those appear on the website (haven't looked lately).
Their Facebook page recently mentioned that they were back open to limited numbers of customers with what sounded like minimal staff. Not sure how that would affect shipping times, but it's something to keep in mind.
When you mentioned they sell a lot of used stuff lately I decided to give them a call. The item I was looking at I believed to be, and appeared new. It made no mention of new or used, but they confirmed it was used. The sound unit was dead. Glad I checked and thank you for the info.

That's interesting. Most of what I'm seeing on their website appears to be their new stock stuff. Their used section had much more to choose from and I'm not seeing any of that listed on the website. The used section seemed to be mainly MPC, Pre and Postwar era stuff with maybe some slightly newer stuff mixed in. It has been a few months since I've visited though, so I could be wrong. Part of me wonders if who you spoke with on the phone checked the wrong item for you as I know not all of their staff is terribly knowledgable about the train stuff.
