Hope they keep, and better yet, enhance the steam operation, and the trips to Dawson.
On my bucket list, hope to make it there some day.

You may be thinking of the Alaska RR. The WP&Y have two operational steam locomotives, to my knowledge.
The charm will be gone.
I think this is good news...the White Pass and Yukon line must cost a fortune to maintain, and Carnival has deep pockets.
I had the pleasure of getting a ride with my wife and sons, a few years ago, and hope it can stick around as long as possible to treat all other interested people to that historic and breathtaking trip.
I thought I saw something in the news last fall that 1 of the steam engines was sent down to the States somewhere for a rebuild. I believe a news station had footage of it being loaded on a barge in Skagway & unloaded in Seattle.
