I bought this tunnel with a pile of trains purchased originally in 1957. I bought these trains from the original owner. There was a 1957 catalog with the purchase. There was a picture of a tunnel similar to this one in the catalog. Does anyone have an idea? The tunnel is made from cardboard. It is unpainted inside and not marked at all

I have one exactly like it. My dad built a 1958 5x9 layout for my brother and it has that mountsin. Yours is in better shape than mine... thats sweet.

Its not lionel. I know that.
I wish I could figure out who built it. Like I stated above, there was a similar tunnel in the 1957 catalog, made of cardboard, but I can't say for certain if it was built/sold by Lionel because it is not marked. I was actually going to toss it, but I would be willing to sell it if I knew who made it. I don't need a tunnel. I don't have the room for a laypout currently.
I will take it.
Where are you? Do you go to york?
I see you are in new york... darn thats a drive... if you go to april york, ill give you 20 for it... if u can bring it... please dont throw it away...

Had one very similar when I was a kid, only it had simulated stone portals. Mine was purchased at Western Auto as a stand alone accessory. Western Auto sold mostly Marx trains. If you and Bob don't come to an agreement PM me, I'm interested as well. fsarmstrong@embarqmail.com

When you say cardboard is that exactly what you mean? It looks to be made of a paper pulp that is then pressed into a mold. The same thing jack-o-lanterns and other holiday decor used to be made of. They were generally sold at Five and Dimes. Wow I am a lot older that I thought.
Yes pulp

Hi... Steve its ok, go ahead and get this... i still have my original, and i didnt want to see this get thrown out. If you can put it to good use, then please take this opportunity to get the tunnel...
They do appear at York from time to time... thanks
Hi,
I also have a WW II era made paper pulp tunnel. While mine doesn't look like yours, there are a few similarities which suggest they might be made by the same company (mine is embossed on the inside with the name "Keiding.")
Keiding is still in business and makes packaging materials.
Take care,
Dick
