I rarely see much activity on the M&StL or Minneapolis and St. Louis RR.  Does anyone model it?

All my uncles on my grandfather's side of the family worked for the M&StL which then became the C&NW and finally the UP.  I have memories as a boy of watching freights going through Sheffield, IA being pulled at that time by new F units.

Do not model it ! , but I have a  Celebration ,(new- un open)  Gp-9, and the 2013- 2 car add,set (new)  (30157), and a Nice  9271, caboose ( used w/box). and willing to throw, in

box limited edition October ornaments.  ---  that means you get the girls train also!!

If someone would like to pursue it, (pics available)

this is an announcement and not an official F/S post!

CGWforever - That sounds like a great combo of RR's.  I'm less familiar with the CGW, but they must have overlapped or connected in some places.  I too am modeling primarily Midwestern scenery.  I decided to be primarily UP, but got worn down by my son and grandkids on the BNSF.  So I can justify a lot of fallen flags of those two RR's.

Art, we did contacted once or twice in the past. Am not sure if u remember. Yes, M&StL had the yard and diesel house at Marshalltown, Iowa. C&NW and CGW served there. Abt 20 miles north east of Marshalltown, small town named Gladbrook, that town where I grew up, CGW and C&NW junction there. M&StL also serve Minneapolis area. So it really perfect for my new layout. I live in Minnesota now.

I seen pictures of ur layout, it really look nice! If I remember correct, u have Lionel C&NW ten wheels steam locomotive and Atlas C&NW passenger cars on ur layout.

I know one other guy on this forum like M&StL. I forget his OGR user name.

Patrick - You have a very good memory, I wish that I did.  I have been trying to limit my road names with a fair amount of success.  In addition to my BNSF/UP I have conceded my upper single track line to be a Milwaukee Road branchline.  That is due to my growing up in Spencer, IA on the Milwaukee branch.  In Spencer the Milwaukee ran east & west and the M&StL ran north & south.  I think the Milwaukee is now CN and the M&StL is UP.

How soon do you think you will get your layout going?

Art, Will take a while to build new layout. Currently I have 7 x 16 layout and is in processing to take down as I am remodeling basement to make bigger and long room and old cellar room will remove. My new layout will have two levels somewhat similar to Elliot's layout (U might see my name and picture of me at his layout called "My dream/nightmare layout" I have been working with him over a year now one or twice a week.) It helped me to rethink and change new design to make it look fun! My new layout will be like "U" shape.

YEAH!  M&StL is one of the four secondary railroads I collect/model.  I bought my son the M&StL starter set a few years ago, my first purchase upon returning to the hobby.

Since then, I've been working to collect everything released for M&StL, and thanks in no small part to a number of folks on this forum, I've tracked down quite a bit.  Got everything from Lionel, MTH (other than their ore car, I believe), KLine, and Williams... and I always have my eyes open for other things I may have missed.

Sadly, mine is boxed up at the moment, as you can see.  My favorites are the K-Line diecast hopper, the MTH tank, and the Lionel PS-1 box. I'll pull them out for a quick photoshoot tomorrow.

I've upgraded all the PW and MPC to modern sprung trucks (as well as the AF boxcar), and I've added a pickup/light to several of the cabooses. Power is provided by the MPC GP9 set, the blue starter RS-1, and the F unit A/B combo from a couple of years ago.  Will probably add a PW ABA setup at some point.  LOVE this road and REALLY enjoying this thread!

Chicago & North Western took over M&ST.L, but did not repaint all of the freight cars.

There were still some covered hoppers that did not get a CNW make-over, even after 1980.

Lionel has made some Traditional O Gauge Minneapolis & St. Louis sets and cars, but not very many O Scale items.

If I was going to get any Minneapolis & St. Louis, it would have to be cars that survived well into the 1970's and 1980's on the CNW.
