I thought Big E is the nickname for the aircraft carrier ENTERPRISE.  Never heard about this E meet.  when/where is it?

The "Big E" is also the nickname for Eastern States Exposition, which is a huge New England states fair held annually in September.  Many refer to the fairgrounds complex itself as the "Big E".  It is located in West Springfield, MA, and is also the venue for many other events, such as the very large annual train show that is the subject of this thread.

Here is the web site for the show, it is put on by the Amherst Railway Society.

The show has been at the Fairgrounds since 1982. I started attending around 1985.

By the way, "The Big E" may be a nickname, but it's widely used, even in official publications. It was years before I knew the official name: Big E website.  (note the name of the website too)

Looking for a neat place to eat? Try the Steaming Tender. Its an old train station surrounded by active tracks. I learned of the place right here on this site, and like to eat there when I'm in the area. I'd guess it's about 30-45 minutes from the show, in Palmer, Ma.

I've confirmed with Ed, OGR will be there weather permitting.   Now if there are any forum members in the area Friday, I'll have a operating session in my crappy basement for running trains say starting at 5:30PM.  All are welcome.(I have new toys by then to show off)

For those who want to meet up for Breakfast.  8am at Partners in Agawam(only a couple of miles from the fairgrounds) website below.

Me, me, me, me. The Big E is my replacement for York

IMHO, there is no replacement for York.  The Big E show, however, is an important supplement to York and we'll be there, weather permitting.

Also, the organizers have the very good sense always to schedule this meet on the dead weekend between the last NFL playoff game and the Super Bowl.  Even if your team is in the thick of things, there's no conflict in that regard.

P.S. Go Patriots...
