I love the MTH trains, but for the money (they are not cheap) why in the world do they come with only one PSA scenario?  I mean sound files, especially mp3, take up very little room digitally....3 or 4 different arrival and departure  scenarios would should be a lot less boring than hearing the same one over and over....and yes, I know you can go over the rigamarole of downloading additional sound files, etc through the TIU, but you still have the problem of having to go through a lengthy procedure jut to get a different arrival/leave scenario....and really...the patter is practically the same.  Sure would add to the enjoyment if this were done...

I'm pretty sure I have some engines where the train announces a few different stops. Its always the same train and number, but there's a point where the conductor says "This stop is _____" and it has a few different ones in it.

The freight yard sequence is kinda silly. You may as well just bring the engine to a stop and let the cab chatter randomly run.

Most of the cab chatter is unrealistic anyway.  Especially the "radio chatter" on steam engines, when in reality, with very extremely limited later-era exceptions, radio wasn't even used during the steam era.  And to appease fellow forum member Hot Water, terminology like "dispatch" wouldn't be used anyway.  There's only a couple of cases where I can recall cab chatter being fairly realistic; and that's the staticy, garbled sound from some of the earlier Railsounds engines (like you were actually listening to it from a scanner) and more recently the freight sounds on my RailKing scale MP15AC.

Memory limits in the hardware is probably the biggest reason in situations with very limited or no cab chatter variations.  You have to consider that the term "sound file" is really a misnomer; it's much more than a sound file.  It's actually more appropriately an all-encompassing, "engine personality file" to paraphrase fellow forum member and DCS beta tester/guru Barry Broskowitz.  The "sound file" also contains programming and algorithms that allow such things as the cruise control to work relatively consistently factoring in differences in types of locomotives such as wheel diameter, controlling lighting, etc.  And there are also memory limits in the existing DCS handheld; even with the memory expansion on the newer PS3 boards, there is a limit on how many additional commands the DCS handheld can accommodate, at least until they release the next generation handheld (whenever that will be).

It would be nice to know before purchasing engines if MTH listed multiple PSA capabilities and/ or whistle as well(maybe they do, but I haven't noticed it in their advertising).  In a previous post, I'm contemplating getting the new Imperial Southern Crescent due out here in June, but have heard so many different whistles and PSA stops  on you tube, that's it difficult to decide if I shouldn't upgrade to Premier instead. Again, perhaps a little more detail in the advertising....

I've noticed that very few products on MTH website have a clickable icon to either watch a video or in particular to hear a sound clip.  Judging by the fact that most products have the icons, yet most are greyed out, it looks like they intended to add these different feature clips for their products.  Seems like some major updating is really needed, but I can only imagine that project gets larger and larger with each new issuance.  If they would at least start adding clips for every new model offered, it would be a good start.

I've wondered if adding a micro flash card port would be worthwhile from a marketing perspective (mass appeal).  Reading some of the posts on the 'cab chatter' or 'crew talk' thread a while back gave the impression it's not a high priority for most, but I do hope they continue to improve and expand sound file options in the future.

My biggest disappointment with MTH sound files was with my Santa Fe Passenger RTR set.  It did have two or three arrival and destination points in the announcement, but engine number is wrong   I'm satisfied with my 4-6-0 and SD70 RTR sounds, but there's still room for improvement IMO, as I enjoy the sounds.
