i just picked up my wifi today got it for 160.00 total so I know some of you people got it cheaper. But I still can't use it because my tiu software is out of date so my train store is going to update it for me this week. Maybe next week will be up and running. Does any one have any suggestions for me before I hook this up. Also am I right that I paid high for this.

Dawg, Your price wasn't bad. Cheapest I've seen was $153 plus $9 shipping (no tax), which I bought, and which comes close to what you paid. I've seen it for sale at higher prices, plus shipping.

it's like seats on a plane, you wind up sitting next to someone who paid half of what you did.
Ok then I did good on price so any one have good advice before I go and hook this up next week.
Do you have a USB port on your TIU?
No USB port ,why?
I was told it would cost about 250 for everything I needed, cab1 Legacy set up is what I have on the layout only, plus adding two apps for two I phones does that sound about right price?

If you have an older TIU without the USB port you will need a USB to RS232 adapter.

adding two apps for two I phones
You only have to pay to upgrade the free app on one iPhone, and it can then be upgraded for free on any other iOS devices.

I have the thing on the right on my tiu that square connection is called a usb
I am not very computer smart
As far as the USB cable, you need it for the TIU upgrade.
I read that some cables do not work as well as they should for the upgrade.
what version is your TIU?
I don't know but my mth dealer upgrades mine he has it now
Jeff, if you have a newer TIU you can connect the wifi using the cable it comes with. If your TIU is older, such as my Rev. I3A, it has a serial port instead of USB. You will need an adapter like this (hopefully this link to ebay won't be deleted, not my auction, just an example):

How do you use that and plug in your tmcc also
I'm not familiar with TMCC, but if it connects with the serial port you can get a splitter. Just do a search for rs232 splitter.
Can I get some clarification on the TIU? I have one with the serial port so I am assuming this is an older version, please confirm.
From the thread, it seems like the newer TIU's have removed the serial connection in favor of a USB port, please confirm.
Thanks in a advance for your assistance.

The eBay link to the usb to serial cable link Shows a price of about $5 as to compared to radio shack at $25. What is the difference ?

Not an expert, but beleive the older tiu have no USB-B. So the connection to WIU needs to be made with serial port.
Serial port on other side of both versions.

The newer TIUs have both serial and USB ports.
So I have version above which has the RS232 on the opp opportunities site side, great as t pictures. . So can I use the cable pictured in MWCWoods post - 11 hrs ago to upgrade to 5.0 or the serial version. The reason I ask is because it is difficult to connect the Serial port.

Marty,
Thanks, I have the newer version. Appreciate the feedback. So I can upgrade the TIU through the use of a USB cable? I want to update the remote and TIU as I plan to order t h e WIFI module on Monday - gives me a few days to get the cable.

Yes. The upside is the USB from the PC should power the TIU so you don't need an Aux power source.
Marty,
Thanks. Will it still default to com port 3 on on the CPU?

I believe in the loader you select USB. I'd have to check as I haven't done a USB upgrade yet. But I know it can be done.
Perfect. This was a huge help.
