Actually, even though you can't get any more "traditional" in one sense than the 2343, it is actually very close to scale size. As Christopher mentioned, the Railking Scale F3 is a dead ringer for the 2343 dimensionally, but that is not to be confused with the Railking "Rugged Rails" F3 which is much shorter.

 

I measured an MTH premier F unit and it is identical in length (12-1/4" measured over the cast-in diaphragm) to the Lionel 2343, but the rear end may give you a problem (add your own comment here...). The Lionel shell has a notch cut out almost the entire width of the carbody to accommodate the large rear platform casting that is part of all Lionel F3 frames. The MTH shell is flush with the sides across the entire rear. It will take some surgery.

 

I don't have a Railking Scale unit on hand to see if it has this notch.
