I am looking to purchase a Brand New in the box S-2 Turbine. The retailer says it does NOT run.

Williams #40499

My question is: do these have the same problems like the MTH units that have sat for a very long time.

Without having the unit in front of me I have no idea what is wrong, especially it is Brand New Never Run.

I can purchase this for a small song.

Any ideas..Anybody

BrianEso,

How does the retailer know the unit don't run, if it is brand new in the box? For him to know means it is no longer 100% brand new in box, it would be best to say 'brand new and opened to test run only.'

Otherwise you might be buying somebody else's problem child.

If your retailer will sell it 50% of what he normally gets for a workable unit then maybe you can buy it, otherwise you are looking at a possibility of spending some hard earned money and then having to fix it again for almost what you spent at first.

Try www.trainworld.com and see if they have a Williams S-2 on clearance sale. I think that you will do better to spend a few more dollars for a working unit.

The retailer is in Conn. I do not know the name of the company. A buddy of mine noticed the unit on the shelf in the store and new that I was a collector of the 6-8-6 Pennsy Locomitives. The Williams is the only one I do not have and I want one.

The retailer said it came from the factory that way. It has been on his shelf for a few years and only opened it to test for a different buyer. Put it on track and nothing happened. No lights, power or hums. To me being the NOVICE I am, I am guessing a broken wire somewhere. I looked around my area and can not find any info on this unit as to what it is worth New.

Also I can Purchase this unit for $89.00 includes shipping

Brian,

I read your posts about being a novice and you will do better by buying the engine from Train World. I have bought three items from there and have been satisfied very much with Train World. Other then waiting on a pre-order I have absolutely no complaints with Train World.

Any way I have about 12 Williams engines before Bachmann and have done some work on them myself. The S-2 would be a good bargain for me to fix up and sell but the shipping might eat up any profit for me being in West Palm Beach FL.

I have installed a motor upgrade kit in an F-7 A unit by Williams, it was not that bad except for two things; one I had to drill the holes just a bit larger that go over the motor area to mount the side brake & axle cover, and two the new motors did not match the speed of my older motors in my other F-7 A unit. So I put the new motors inside another F-7 unit(swapped shells so it was easy) I had and got a set of matching motors for a Santa Fe passenger car set I bought.

Brian,

If, the only information that you have, is that the locomotive is 'BRANDEEE NEW,' but don't run, watch out, unless the merchant is practically giving you the item for a very inexpensive price!

The least you can do, with it, if it is unrepairable, is to use for siding scenery.

I once bought a 'BRANDEEE NEW,' locomotive for close to $400.00, and did not work properly, of which I found out that someone tried to repair it, but was unsuccessful.

Almost $200.00 more, which a Lionel Technician had to replace and repair a few parts, did the darn thing run as it was supposed to!!!!!

Good Luck,

Ralph
