I really dislike these things, as much as I love old Wms and Weaver brass that they permeate. And, these tiny things are typically, or at least often, brass, which means that a magnet is no help when one goes astray.

Thankfully die-cast pieces do not use many/any of these "M2's" and the like; brass locos are usually easier to fiddle with than die-cast, but not when these are involved.

I imagine that someone on eBay (don't look in the RR category only) offers these; also, just try searching for "M2 screws" and such on the Web.

An excellent source for high quality steel (magnetic) metric machine screws is Northwest Shot Line (NWSL).  Newer brass imports seem to have steel screw.  When I work with older brass I often upgrade the screws with plated black Phillips head steel ones so that my magnitized screw drivers can pick them up

Looked for Northwest Shot Line online and get no hits; Ed, do you have a link?

Get 'em while you can.  I've heard that NWSL is planning to close its doors this summer.

Metallurgists out there- is there any possibility of introducing a galvanic reaction using steel or zinc fasteners in contact with the brass body?  (Disclaimer: I'm a die-cast guy.  I lie awake nights worrying about zinc pest )
