Anyone know the specs on the large can motors in these engines? Especially the RPMs. Think I have one about to go bad on me, I have 2 motors in a box of parts but not sure if either of them match or come close to the RPM of the original motor in the engine.

Pretty sure they use Mabuchi 550s. They are a dime a dozen on eBay. Just get a 12v one if yours go bad. A Pittman 9433 is pretty close in size. You just have drill a couple of new holes in the motor mount.

Bob, these motors spin to the moon ....as you probably know, you’re working with a 44:1 gear ratio.....a Mubachi 555 is a suitable replacement, but you’ll definitely notice some higher speed loss.....I think Bob2 noted one time these things were equipped with like a wiper motor from a car....a large Pittman is also a good swap candidate, but again, you’ll lose some top speed....

Thanks guys!
I think the spare motor I have came out of my Williams brass N&W 4-8-4.
Really not sure if it’s the motor or not, it runs fine if all that’s running is the engine but once I start adding freight cars it runs good at about 65% power but anything above that it begins to shutdown. I can wait a minute or so and start it up again so I’m thinking the load of the cars is making the poly fuse trip (this is a BPRC engine).
I need to open it up, can’t recall if this board is a 3amp or 6amp board. It’s been running fine until now. I may install the spare motor just to see what happens. This engine has never had the top speed as my others have so maybe the motor has slowly been deteriorating.
I had to replace the traction tires on the engine yesterday, that’s what made me notice the issue, when I ran the engine to make sure the new tires were on good.
Swapping out the motor is fairly easy.
The spare motor measured 7500rpm at 12v.
Well...turns out the battery needed to be recharged . The batteries I have (20 engines) usually don't behave like this one was so I didn't notice or check it like I normally would. Recharged the battery and all is well.
I keep a log of when I charge so I need to look to see if there is a pattern developing, this was one of my first BPRC engines so I'm thinking the battery is nearing it's end of life...or maybe I just need to run my trains more.
