I believe that a 1511 has a square male shaft, so you could use the proper size of clock key to wind it.  Perhaps one of the other guys on here can tell us what the size of the shaft is, but you can take a caliper and measure across the flats.  If it is an 1/8" shaft (just a guess on my part) a #4, 3.25mm key would work.  You can find them on Ebay, or my favorite source for keys and mainsprings, Clockworks... you can look at their key page HERE.

right you are, James.  the 1511 has a 1/8" square shaft.  i don't have an original Lionel key, but i have 2-3 keys that will fit.  same key as both the early Girard cast iron locomotives and much later Unique Arts motors.  not 100% sure about this, but i would imagine Lionel clockwork motors were all inherited from Ives.
