Just read that the Toyota Hall at York offers wireless internet. Is there a charge for this or is it free like at most hotels and other venues.

IT is not open to the public during York. (I am sure Eastern would not request it) Perhaps the vendors have access to ran CC transactions. 3G works OK
McDonalds a couple miles north has free internet. I hung out there for much too long last year as a result.
I have a friend who'se curious about York. I plan on skypeing while walking the halls so he can have the experience of almost being there. Cell phones are sooo obsolete.
Of course if there is ever rule against it I will comply just as I comply by not using my cell phone.

I have 3G on the iPad and Skype
Oh! I hope it's not contagious.
I had Skype but I got an ointment for it.
I just use my Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go. Very cheap to use. Plug into the USB port and you are on the internet.

What sort of device does one use to Skype while walking?
Cell phone with a camera, iPad, etc.

Cell phones can not be used in any of the halls.

iPad? Or are they prohibited as well?
Just leave all your digital communications toys in your pocket or in your car (or, best of all, at home) and you'll be just fine at York. You're supposedly there to enjoy trains, the hobby, and friendships. You don't need a digital gizmo for any of that.
gunrunnerjohn,
If I'm not mistaken Skype would be using the iPad's 3G function (since wifi is not available) and therefore would be using the cellular network, the same as a cell phone does.
The final say about this is with the Eastern Division, who puts on the show. If they see you using it they will probably tell you to stop using it inside the hall.

Hey Marty was that ointment BLUE?
