I purchased this set Heisler Log Train Set 6-83553 when it first came out, nice engine great features etc. except for the three items to attach the tender - drive link, hook and tether ( 4 wire ). On top of this frustration having the engine stall out when crossing two lionel switches , when connected back to back.  I put this set back in the box and on the back shelf.

Now I hear that sometime in the past couple of years a wireless tether was created and I wonder if this once star of my layout could be fitted with this more recent feature.

Hoping this is possible...!!!

A wireless tether is not going to solve your stalling issue, it will only exacerbate it.  The wired tether is actually used on that model to widen the footprint of the pickup rollers.  Removing the roller on the tender from powering the locomotive can't possible increase reliability.  There is likely something else amiss that is causing your issues.  The wireless tether is used on any Lionel locomotive where it is appropriate, but some smaller locomotives don't have the footprint to make it practical.
