Opened the hood on a Lionel SD80 (6-28240) that started popping the circuit breaker on my track last night.   I found several wires that had a bare spot, or looked to be open wires...even one wire severed completely by a body screw.  This engine was running fine up to last night though, not really understanding why all the sudden problems and/or why these wires did not cause a problem before.  Any thoughts?  Direct Lockon just blinks red when that engine is on the track.

Was this a new engine  to you or other?   Keep it off the track and get it to someone who knows what to look for.  You have an older TMCC engine with modular boards.  A trained tech can go through it quickly and find the problem.   I had one of those about 6 months ago and the owner had a derailment with an old ZW and it burned traces on the mother board.  Those engines are fairly simple to trouble shoot and work on.
