Amazon pretty much has anything you could want. Also remember the o gauge magazine wire. Many also buy at the big box stores.
hey Dougie,
I just mentioned to friend that I haven't heard from you on this year's Christmas layout. Will it be the same this season?
I like Home Depot for grabbing small rolls of PRIMARY WIRE for hands on needs. The rest I order online if I can wait.
Auto supply stores will have it also - but a little more expensive.
Best source I've found for all things wire is All Electronics at : www.allelectronics.com
Home Depot
McMaster-Carr
Lowes
Thanks for the info...I used up all I had with building a 4x8 rolling table for a summer layout for my play time. I'll take a picture and post it....On THIS years Christmas layout.. I'm really thinking of going old school, and put up a real tree in the corner and put my layout on the floor. Simple and as I remember it in the 60's. Only downfall if that all the detail that I have done in the past will not be able to be put down..Buuuuuuuuuut its a work in progress...
I have used 20 gauge for my lights etc. Power for the track..14gauge...what is your thought?

So why not start by laying down a faux floor? Wouldn't that allow you to add at least some of the detail that you can't add to the real floor?

Yes it would but the area that I have is in the corner and with only a few opts. On Christmas morning we could put the presents around the tree. On the track and not have to worry about stuff getting broke..I have thought of getting a carpet to set the tree stand on and to put the fastrack on. Would help cut down the noise and I could run any wiring under it. The area is a "L" shape 8x8x4 wide max.

I haven't bought wire yet, so I might be comparing apples to oranges here, but from what I saw:
100' of red 16G is $18.50 plus min $8 shipping (or $37.00 for both red & black) from All Electronics. (14G is $26.50/$53.00)
100' of 16G 2-conductor wire (red & black together) is $28.95 plus $5 shipping from OGR. (14G in $38.95)
I plan on buying from OGR unless someone shows me an error in my thinking.
Menards/ Lowes stock in the store the referenced wire gauges in various spool sizes. I have purchased wire at our local Menards in Michigan City saved the shipping charges. They sell solid/stranded in these gauges, no issue with the wire quality.

Try Remington Industries on Ebay. They have many sizes with no shipping charge.
Dougie,
Try these guys for pricing 11.6/ft for 16 and 26.6/ft for 12 for 100' rolls. the rest are in between.
I use them unless I need it now.

I have been running a floor twice around the tree for a few years now. The tree that I have is too massive. It sits low and is nearly 6.5' wide at the bottom.
The train is just lost under the tree a lot.
I know with the grandchildren being 5 & 6 now, if I make a L -shape or a corner like yours, the track will get stepped on or worse.
