Dear O gauge wiring gurus,

I have a pre-war American Flyer #2016 warning signal with ringing bell and light.  I'd like to put it on my layout using a section of Lionel insulated track and a lock-on.  The accessory has two electrical hookups with tightening nuts.  But there's also a smaller threaded piece with a smaller nut -- not sure if that's another electrical connection or something to adjust the bell?  Anyway, the accessory is louder than a schoolyard bell and the red light works fine too.  The problem is that when a train goes over the section of insulated track, I see lots of sparks on the track where the wheels are making contact.  I've switched the two electrical connections (i.e. put wire A on lock-on connection A, wire B on lock-on connection B, and vice versa) but I still get the sparks.  Can anyone help me wth this one?  Much obliged!

Sincerely,

The Gandy Dancer
