I am helping a friend build his layout using Fastrak. Unfortunately he lives down in San Diego.
He has two loops of fastrak that he wants independent from each other as he runs a lot of conventional engines. He wants to use a crossover crossing one loop and the other using the other section. The question is are the two tracks on crossover electrically independent from each other??? Can the connections on bottom of Fastrak crossover be configured to make this possible???

If you and your friend use 1 3/8" straights between the switches, that will allow for two separate tracks. All you need to do is remove the wire connecting the two sides of the center rail, and the two tracks will be isolated from each other. Make sure you phase the transformers of course.
I took a Dremel cutting wheel and cut off the strips connecting one track to the other on the bottom side of the crossover. I'm using 2 MTH Z1000 Transformers that are in phase with each other for my two separate tracks. I cut the mainline and kept the strip in place for backing into the yard as that train would obviously be going slower.
