I just received a Postwar lionel 2032 which is basically a basket case. The e-unit has stopped working and I wish to just have the engine go forward only with no e-unit whatsoever. I would like to run the motor directly from the rear truck which has two pickup rollers. There seems to be three wires coming from the motor, two by the brush plate on top (yellow and blue) and toward the rear of the motor a green wire. How do I hook this up direct to the truck?

The center-left diagram shows the wiring of a locomotive without a reversing mechanism.
Reverse the wires to the brushes (armature) to reverse the locomotive direction.
Larry
Connect the green and yellow wires together. Connect the blue wire to center rail power. If this goes the wrong direction, connect the green and blue wires together and connect the yellow wire to center rail power.
Thank you very much David and Larry! I will try it out later to see if I can get this thing working.
Just a quick update to this engine. I ended up buying a used motor for this engine as the problem was not just with the e-unit, but the motor burned out as well. I hooked everything up as suggested with the replacement motor and all works great (without e-unit) for forward operation with the headlight working also. In the future should I feel like working on the battery operated horn I will tackle that problem as well. Thanks everyone again from turning a total disaster into an engine I enjoy running!
Rob, that is exactly what I did when I discovered the engine was going in reverse. This morning I made that correction and all is good. I also replaced all the wiring as the original wires were brittle and easily broken.
