I picked up the ABA unit about a year ago and just got around to running it. As with all new to me equipment it gets a few real slow passes... While doing this I noticed the B unit spark to the track and then the power short out. Ran it a couple times and it repeated.

I popped the shell, noticed a few screws missing, replaced those, and didn't feel that was the issue. A closer look at the wiring and I noticed what you see in the pictures. It was in the area leading to the trucks. My assumption is they get soldered to the truck but I haven't dug that far in yet. Can anyone confirm that's where they go?SFB1SFB2SFB3

Thanks!

That will do it. On many engines those wires go to the pickup rollers. You can use an ohmmeter to verify. They used to use wire nuts to tie the 3rail wires together. You can use electrical tape to cover that exposed wire, more shrink wrap or cut the shrink wrap off and use a wire nut.
Quality control is in the pits these days.

Update: There is another small bundle of wires with shrink tube also tucked into the wiring hole to the trucks. Nudged it out, while it did not have a wire protruding like the previous post, it had a wire about 1/16" from the end of the shrink tube. Just enough for it to arc.

Put another piece of tube on, tested it this morning, bingo! Works as it should!!
