I have had my Legacy CAB-2 system and Lionel ZW-L power supply for 5 years with no issues.  I purchased a new DCS/TIU last week and cannot not get them to work right more importantly how do I hook them up?

Per many videos and internet searches I:

1.  connected the wire from the command base to the output on the Fixed Output 1 on the TIU

2.  disconnected the wire from command base from to the ZW-L

3.  connected the black and red from the ZW-L to the TIU Fixed input 1

4.  connected the black and red from the TIU Fixed Output 1 to my track block.

5.  the ZW-L back side CMD/CONV switch is set to CONV mode

Is this correct?  With this configuration the ZW-L immediately goes back to Zero volts.

I am lost and MTH, when called said, "I don't now anything about the Legacy system."  Fair enough and neither do I.

There must be other settings I am not aware of on the DCS Remote and or Legacy Remote. (Track and or Engine ID's).

1. Connect wire from Command Base to "Black" fixed Output of TIU.

4. Connect "red" Fixed Output 1 to center rail, "black" Fixed Output 1 to outside rail.

5. If you are running conventional you need to power the TIU via a separate power supply or run jumpers from Fixed Input 1 to Vari Input 1. In addition, use Vari Output 1 not Fixed Output 1. If you are running everything command then initial set-up for the TIU is correct.

Bill,

I suggest that you purchase a copy of The DCS Companion 3rd Edition. Doing so will answer just about every question that you could think to ask regarding DCS. The book is designed to be used as both a "DCS primer" and also as a reference text.

It even has a complete section that discusses, in detail, how to integrate DCS with either TMCC or Legacy or both together, and also provides an introduction to MTH's DCS App standard version.

DCS Book CoverEverything that you need to know about DCS is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

Bill,

I have run DCS and Legacy together for years now, Barry was nice enough to advise/teach me about DCS even before his 1st book was written.  I highly recommend his DCS O Gauge Companion Book, it saves both the beginner and the experienced from making mistakes, and eliminates a big learning curve.

As experience as I am with building DCS/Legacy layouts I still reference Barry's Book all the time when building my layouts.

Barry also took time out of his Sunday (this past Sunday) to walk me through some DCS->TMCC issues I was having. What a guy, what a guy! And I had his book out just this morning troubleshooting a wiring issue that arose when I installed a Z-1000 in place of a Lionel ZW.

Whodathunk that simply replacing a transformer would cause a TIU hiccup. But it did, and Dr. Broskowitz's book walked me through the process of getting it right.

He is indeed "The Doctor of DCS"!
