Hi and hello to all!
I just tried the process listed in this older forum topic below:

It worked fine, but I noticed when I have it in variable mode there is a low hum coming from the TIU running trains.
When I press the 'FXD' to put it back into fixed mode, again all runs fine just no hum.
Using a lionel powerhouse 180 watt brick for power. The TIU is rev. L.
My question, is the hum normal?

Don't think so..... Do both var channels do this? (hum)
Does it do this with a different type of transformer?
I don't know about another power supply? I will try a different one. I do know that when I hook up the TIU with my Z4000 as a Z4K track there is no hum varying the voltage.

Just curious whether the Z-4000 and 180 are in phase with each other? Do they share the same common outside rail?
Sorry, should have explained. Neither one is connected to the TIU at the same time, I was testing which way to go.
i just noticed the hum when I use the brick and was wondering if it's normal.

I doubt you would be able to heard a low hum in the TIU with the Z-4000 as the fan makes noise.
My z4000 is pretty quiet.

I have heard of this light hum in the Variable mode using the 180 Lionel Bricks before, however I have no idea what makes it happen & from what I understand,
it does not effect the running of any remote control trains. Further no such hum happens when using the Z4K or the old ZW or KW Transformers never heard it happening with the new ZW-L either.
