I recently purchased a used TMCC base along with the required MTH cable to connect it to the TIU. Anyone available to run through the process of setting it up so I can run TMCC engines with the DCS remote?

Connect the TMCC base to the TIU using the cable. Then follow the instructions to add and operate TMCC locomotives in the DCS instruction manual. Easy.
I've been running my TMCC and DCS locomotives from the DCS remote without issue.
I thought the base had to have a wire from it to the outside (common) rail ?

Yes, you need that wire connected, too.
