After applying power to the WIU and it goes thru the initialazation process, the power light and wifi lights are solid, but the TIU button flickers on and off continuosly. Is it ok to proceed?
You're not likely to hurt anything if you try to use the app. Having said that, it really sounds like a poor connection between the TIU and WIU.
Make certain that the cable is securely connected at both the TIU and the WIU. Is this a Rev. L TIU with a USB port or are you using a serial to USB cable? If the latter, make sure that it's secure at the TIU end.
Thanks Barry. This is a Rev I (Silver Dot Special) and the cable was secure. On a hunch and based on what I have picked up from this forum, I bought a new cable. 'VOILA' lights initialized properly and I'm running trains. The app is amazing and I have a feeling this is the tip of the 'iceberg' with MTH WiFi. Kudos to MTH and the beta testers. I am a little different than most on this forum as I run strictly HO with DC, in on fixed 1/2 and out on fixed 1/2. The DCS Companion is a life saver and I highly recommend it for young and old (I'm 70). I don't have an ergonomic issue using the handheld remote or the I-pad mini. they are just different. I have the 'mini' in a form fitting case with a strap on the back to slide my left hand through. I can hold it right side up or upside down. This frees my right hand for whatever I have to do on the layout. Works great. For speed of function the app wins hands down. The remote is now for guests.
