The railroad posted a detailed update about the 1309 on their Facebook page yesterday morning. For those who have been wondering the locomotive will remain numbered 1309 but the tender will be lettered "Western Maryland." The link is below for those who are interested.

Also of note - they are now selling tickets for a "first run" July 4th Weekend.
Personally, I'll wait to buy tickets, just in case. Having seen, photographed, climbed on as a kid, etc that loco as it rusted away at the B&O Museum, seeing it run will be quite something for me.

You and I must have had very similar childhoods! I'm really looking forward to this as well.

Must have! I see we live in the same place, too!
Well that was a great update! Might have to make a road trip this year to see her run.
Thanks for the update!
Good to see the update.
I must say though about a week ago in their update of the rebuild from their curator they said they are in "no rush" to push for a first steam up in late May and have it pulling excursions in June/July. Now they are promising a July 1st first public excursion?
Sorry to be a Negative Nancy, but I would hate to buy a ticket to be one of the first people to ride behind a C&O H6 and then find out it won't be pulling the train up the mountain. Just my opinion of course.
Another thought; will the "slide area" be repaired/rebuilt in order that trains can operate all the way to Frostburg, by then?

Last time I heard on an official video update of the landslide area they are anticipating full access to the Frostburg station by the 2017 season.
One slide area has been completely rebuilt and finished. The second slide area is currently being worked on. The county allocated funds to work on the second site as it affected both the railroad and the hiking/biking trail next to it. As was mentioned the work is scheduled to be finished early this year.

That is exactly why I'm going to wait a bit to buy tickets to ride. I remember a big up roar about one of the steam locomotives for the NS steam program not being ready to run, despite them selling tickets and later selling out the train and promising the steam engine. They had to run the train with NS diesels. This was maybe 5 years ago.

Smart move!
Disappointing but expected that it will be "Western Maryland" as opposed to Chesapeake and Ohio.

Yep that was confirmed in the update about a week ago.
I could care less, but I'm sure the C&O purists will scream bloody murder.
It could say "Lionel Lines" on the tender......as long as its runnin'. Not to mention as we've seen with other steamers the lettering could always be changed in the future.
More importantly, I read someplace that they have requested the lone of a "particular/specific C&O item" from the C&O Historical Society, in order to make a duplicate. Just my opinion but, I'm hoping that the "item" is a CORRECT C&O freight whistle!

They wore hooters in service, didn't they?

Yes. The C&O version of the "hooter".

Not a bad idea...

Here's a link to a new's update article from today.
I want to see 1309 run, I just hope they don't half-*** the project to get it running sooner. They've said all along that they'd do it right even if it took longer; I'd rather see that than a hurried restoration that ends up plagued with issues.

Nah... American Flyer Lines...
She will be running on "realistic 2-rail track" after all.
