Riding in a open gondola is insane not to mention dangerous. Just suppose the locomotive jerks forward or stops short. All of those in the gondola would be thrown forward or fall out. Even when seated and certainly standing in a passenger car people get tossed around when something such as this happens so being in a gondola just think about it. I guess no one was thinking that day of what could happen.

I never mentioned anything about law offices. It's just about safety, life and limb and common sense.

Nice video! 1960s vintage I guess, by the vehicles?
I echo your sentiments. I got all full of ideas reading about the Crooked Mountain Lines years ago in MR and wanted to build an O scale Texas Electric like the one seen. Adding up the component cost put an end to that idea.
I'm thinking this bash seen on the following page, by forum member Jim Policastro, might fit the bill : http://tinyurl.com/kj7x8fh
This was filmed at a time when we could be as brave or stupid as we liked. We all pretty well knew the potential consequences of our actions and were held accountable for same.
The gentlemen in the gondola were taking a reasonable risk.
Great video. Maybe 1958 ish.
Can you get up and walk around on a bullet train?
Years ago I had the flat-poured resin boxcab bodyfromWestern Railcraft (I think) for the Atlas 6-wheel switcher. After a while I built my own wooden body so that there would be end platforms, and added a Lionel pantograph and the Atlas air tank to the roof. Looked kinda good under wire with an AHM flatcar and 4 wheel caboose.
A recent Micro Mark catolog had a picture of an in-progress steeple cab build. This would be an interesting Scratchbuilding project. Hmmmm...

Plenty of older IMP and (Kidder) 85T brass steeple cab shells out there floating about for reasonable prices that are ready for repowering. I have several in the queue to explore several means of powering vs. the original drives.
Right now there's a Class B-1 shell from NWSL like that pictured above on eBay.
Same ones I have, Don. Probably have 6 of those ED144 shells in varying condition.
I've done one re-powering series of columns on that for OST and I will be re-visiting that writing up another series of columns on a 2nd re=powering option in the near future.
I've got a couple of sets of Overland drives for the steeple cabs stashed away in the project queue, too.

They used to do it on the Burlington alla time:
Rusty
BTW..#300 is nearly restored at IRM
Another variation is the four truck model used by CNSM ( pictured) IT and P&N....would make a great engine but probably pricey in O gauge.
mwb, I re-powered two of mine with K-line S-2 switcher trucks. They work good but not great. I like the trucks because the motors sit inside the trucks but they have plastic gears so they run a little jerky. I run three rail to I don't have a lot of options. Don.

The pictured engine was done by Kidder, I think. I've seen a few of them.
I scratchbuilt the 1st P&N B+B-B+B engine (see the last year of so of my columns in OST) and I have an IT Class C to rebuild/restore.
I also have a set of the etched brass parts for another IT Class C that I should probably just sell off since I doubt I'll ever bother building one up from those parts.

I had a thought to use the same power source at one time to convert a few over to 3 rail use. I had a worry that they might be just as you describe and also geared a tad fast, too.
I have at least 3 box cabs that have Weaver drive components in them now & that's what will go into the next one, too.
This is another favorite...an on board ride I have put together this box cab body but three rail trucks that fit into the shell and re not oversized seems an impossibility..so far.
Great video; thanks for posting!
There's something familiar about tight curves and wide swing couplers, but I can't quite put my finger on it..................
I have a soft spot for the overhead wire because the models are "live electric", in the sense of live steam or live diesel.

That's the old Pittman freight motor and trucks/drives for that in 3-rail were made to go with it when they were being produced. See them on eBay periodically....
Thanks for posting electroliner.
Ever since I saw some up in East Troy I have been liking them too.
Every once in a while I see a steeplecab when I search for South Shore in O gauge on eBay, totally missed one that sold a while ago.
