Has anyone done these in brass...?

Not sure, but the MTH versions aren't too bad. Here's two I custom painted:
I was hoping to find something like these:

I don't know about brass, but it takes several small plastic items to fashion a higher capacity on top of a 50 ton hopper car to put it into woodchip service.
The Prorocraft models are brass. PSC has also done them.

Those are almost identical to the SP "Sugarbeet" gondolas. I haven't seen any drop-bottom gondolas in brass in my travels, but the wood extensions could be done pretty easily to an MTH composite gon.
Brad,
Rich Yoder did a Western Maryland wood chip hopper quite a while back. The 12" to the foot version was a regular hopper with an extension on top. They show up on Ebay and at shows now and then.
Considering your interest in brass, maybe you should consider going 2 rail????
Simon
maybe you could make molds of it and try lost wax casting it with brass if your search gets too hard to find one
Here's a link to some woodchip hoppers:

When I was in HO, I had an ACL WoodChip Hopper like this:

but I don't think it was prototypical for ACL.
Bob---its a hoot seeing the GN images as some are in seattle
Simon---yes I am contemplating this at some point...
