Today was the official opening day for the IGA store. People came from miles away to attend the opening, special sales, etc. Little Diane Sue, with her mother also came and wants to ride the pony for a dime she's saved up. But, hovering near the edge above, 2 pidgeon have taken up residence right above the ride. Hope she finishes her ride unscathed.
Thanks again, John.
Things have certainly change over the years.
1950s...
2010s...
Yes!
The presentation of the merchandise is now very poor,
and the style of dress is more, um "casual"?
Your being kind with the word, "casual"...
That's not casual,that's nauseous.
Tell me, please, that that's not Lionel Orange above the naked (darn near so) guy in the check out counter. By the way, where does he keep his wallet? (Never mind. I don't think I want to know!)

I like the looks of the new IGA built-up myself! I have thought about seeing if Mrs Santa will get one. If I was going to bash it to more resemble the store we shopped at in Mars, Pennsylvania when I was a kid, I would have to cut it down to remove the second set of windows on the right side. The store only had 3 aisles. Every once in a while when I'm in today's grocery stores, I marvel at all the different stuff in them. My mother was able to get everything we needed in that 3 aisle store.
Dept. 56 also made a Red Owl store that is good looking.
I wish there was an easy way to remove the snow from it. I love Christmas but I don't want it Christmas on my layout all year long.

OGR magazine has an article on dewinterizing ceramic buildings in the current issue.
Would this design still be used into the 1970s? Thoughts? I think I want one.
Well, I went shopping in a similar looking IGA 2 weeks ago.
They have two in stock at my LHS. Made sure wife saw them on her pre Christmas holiday tour..

Kinda like the hardware stores where/when I grew up. Small but stacked to the gills. If they didn't have it or couldn't get it, you didn't need it!
Probable not the place to post this. But I love the detail that is put into these, and now my wish is that they create a 50s type TV and Radio store. My one need for the town. These were the buildings that always held a crowd in front of the windows, watching the TVs, and waiting for the day when they could purchase one. Its the one, unless I have missed it, hasn't been made.
Received mine today from Mr. Muffin's Trains.
An excellent shop to deal with. Customer friendly with speedy shipping!
Thanks Steve
Anyone notice the 2 doves on the right corner of the roof..............
Very nice detail on these buildings and so easy..........just place it on the layout and hook up 2 wires......done!
