The pieces for this project have been in my roundtuit pile since 2006. The plan was to make a fake red comet, but then a mint in the box Lionel repro Red Comet set showed up at a great price so until last week, these bits and pieces remained in a box. The coaches are 315X series American Flyer, the tender is a Lionel Scout with prewar trucks and the loco is a Lionel 1689 with a Marx 333 motor.

I picked the shell up already painted and done very well. That is what inspired the Red Comet idea in the first place.

Not knowing what a real Red Comet looks like, I think the fake one looks just fine! Some AF, a bit of Lionel and dash of Marx. Sounds like the perfect mixture for tinplate fun.
