Would you be interested in a European High Speed Passenger Train Set?

Seems to be a popular topic lately. I would like to have an Alstom high speed train in 3 rail O, but I probably would've be able to afford it. 

I've always wondered why the TGV hasn't been offered in O-Scale.  It wouldn't have to lean around the corners and have automatic doors and other Acela features either.

Worked at Alstom for several years, rode on the TGV (for the non-French, pronounced Tay-Jeh-vey) several times in Europe on company outings. Amazing, amazing trains. Would definitely consider if made available.

I would love an O Gauge TGV or a Eurostar.  Whenever I go to Europe, my first priority is to make sure I ride the TGV.

I picked up an HO TGV a few years ago in Paris, but I want a big O Gauge set.

Unfortunately no. I have quite a few European trains, but my interest is mainly steam era, and I don't have the room to dedicate a track or even a siding to a large articulated train. I've ridden the TGV, its Italian counterpart the TAV, and the Shinkansen and I'm very fond of them, but I would not be in the market for an 0 gauge replica. 

I tried to upload a video of an ICE train that I took, but it just won't load.  I tried it in it's original .avi, then tried it converted to .mdv and .flv - none would load without going into "error" mode.  This was attempted using Add Attachments.  Anyone have any suggestions? 

There are two European high-speed trains I wouldn't mind having O scale models of -- the original TGV and Germany's "ICE" train. The only thing I'd like for them to do is set the locomotives up as separate units rather than slaving them together as those inter-car tethers are a pain, plus the signal degrades when you extend the train to longer lengths. Since they require broad curves anyway, the should be done with Code 172 scale wheels.

When one crosses the Rockies I will be interested.

I would also like the ICE to be a scale model without the frills like powered doors or tilting.  Also would like to have a no frills scale model of the Acela!

No, but only because I don't model anything later than the 60's. If I were into modern passenger service, I would be interested.

Two questions Silver, first where did you find those trains and what track diameter can they be made to work on? They look like O72 and up would be best case scenario. They do look pretty cool, keep us updated on the progress.

Nope, not an item on my bucket list.

During my working career I rode Japan's Shinkansen many times.  What a fantastic system, smooth ride, precision operation!  I retired, though, before any of the European versions of hi-speed rail were available.

As for an O3R model, I find the whole idea a bit of a conundrum.  The first time I scratched my head over this question was when Lionel released its model of the Acela. 

The very functional nature and essence of this sort of train is when it is at it's design speed...very high speed!  Most O3R layouts among the broader O3R market that I'm aware of do not have trackwork...i.e., broad curves... capable of accommodating this exceptional high speed operation.  And, BTW, for this realm of equipment, O72/O84 are NOT broad curves!!!  So, what's the point?

Of course, there is the aesthetical aspect of these high speed trains.  But that could be appreciated in a model just sitting on a shelf, IMHO.  Many of the photos we see of these trains that draw our admiration and awe are when the train is at rest, in a station, parked for a publicity shot, etc..  But it is, after all, the complete train that we're talking about, not just the lead unit.  So buying just a lead unit 'shelf queen' of one of these marvels?......I think it would lose most of its 'chutzpah'.  And spending that much money....much less finding sufficient linear shelf space!!!!...for a shelf queen train?......no thanks.

It would strain my available storage space, but yes I would go for pretty much any Asian/European HST train.

It should be noted that TGV coaches are not as long as those here in the US, a little more than 60' for the articulated coaches and about 70' for the cars adjacent to the power cars, so an 072+ minimum radius is not a requirement.

No, the European market, though interesting, has no appeal to my themed American 30's to 50's era.

Ya but first I need to have a ride on it so I can relate to it, and it has to have that real cool duppler effect as it goes buy. sounds like a fazer gun. I am going to Europe next fall and ride one of those zippy cho chos but which one?

Yes, I would! I used to have one in HO way back when. It got 'lost' when my parents moved after I went away to college.
