Only if it is a reproduction of a classic AF postwar item, preferably a 322.

Yes, if it is prewar o-gauge.
Walt
Only if LCCA changed their name to AFCCA.
Stu
Yes I would, if it were O gauge. Looking forward to receiving the Lake Shore Limited set. Thinking outside the box; a Marx set using Joe's Trains would be great.
Yes if o gauge

Good one, Stu! If you're gonna call yourself the Lionel Collectors Club of America, ya darn well ought to stick to Lionel. And anyone who lived in the Golden Years of toy trains in the 40s and 50s can tell you with absolute certainty that Flyer ain't Lionel!
Would this make it American Flyer by Lionel by LCCA by Lionel Corporation but really MTH ?
This just gets too confusing.
Only if it were 100% tinplate (w/o diecast). I know, don't hold my breath.
Hi Lou, I would love to have a Post-war AF train if the engine had the old mechanical CHOO-CHOO sound in it. But, to be honest with you I doubt if it will sell in large enough numbers to make a profit for the club. I would bet that I'm the odd ball on that one.
As for Stu's well timed and funny remark about changing the clubs name to the AFCCA, I thought American Flyer was a Lionel product!
As mentioned above a prewar AF train in O-gauge could be a winner.
In any case it would be interesting to see how this poll rolls.
Folks,
One other thought. Lionel has been producing potentially, and actually, collectible S Gauge/Scale trains for over thirty years. They produced their first three new AF pieces from Gilbert tooling in 1979 and have not missed offering something in S ever since.
You can be an S Gauger and an LCCA member with no problem at all. Hey, we are S friendly as well as 3 rail friendly at the LCCA. After all, in the modern era, both O and S trains have been made by Lionel for decades. That qualifies S to be an integral part of LCCA. You are collecting Lionel when you are collecting Modern Era S in the same way as collecting and operating 3-rail O. Plus, now both sizes of trains come equipped with the same Legacy command control system .
Yep, O and S have become Lionel kissin' cousins and fair game for LCCAers who deal in either gauge.
Just sayin'

Okay, I read it. And?
You're the Lionel Collector's Club of America. Be true to your name and heritage. At least that would be my recommendation.
Hi Allan, I have alot of respect for your opinion but I just don't see this as a deviation from the LCCA's mission statement. As Ed has stated above Lionel has been the parent company of the American Flyer line for almost sixty years.
I know the old Flyer verses Lionel conflict runs deep, but come on even the North and the South came together for the Spanish/ American war in half that time.
I tell you guys things don't look good for the MTH and Lionel folks to ever come together before the countrys tri-centennial.
So come on guys lets and make up with the Flyer gang and move on to peaceful coexistence in toy train land.
I don't have a horse in this race, but just offered my considered opinion. Leave S gauge to the NASG and help them grow the ranks of an organization devoted to S, especially now that there will likely be a new infusion of interest and involvement in that scale.
I suggest you make the two unit Seaboard Baldwin diesel switcher set Flyer offered in the late 50's.
Maybe, depending on what it is. And I think American Flyer IS appropiate for LCCA, and I am a LCCA member.
John
I think it's funny that on the S board there seems to be support for a modern tooled scale S set and those here that are interested on the O board want a Postwar style set. #crazytimesinS
For the record, I voted for two new scale Hudson sets. One freight and one passenger.
Would I go to an Italian restaurant to order wonton soup ? No ...
